Member Mixer – The Photo Essay: When One Frame Isn’t Enough
Some stories can’t fit in a single frame. This week, we’re talking about sequences — how a set of images can say what one photo never could.
Tonight’s Discussion:
Bring a Set
Show us 3–5 images that tell a single story. Could be a weekend project, a years-long obsession, or something you shot last Tuesday. Walk us through the sequence — why these frames, in this order? What’s the thread that holds them together?
The Anatomy of an Essay
Opening shot, establishing context, the turn, the close. Photo essays have structure even when they feel loose. We’ll look at what separates a curated set from a random gallery — and why some sequences hit harder than others.
The Almost-Essay
Got a set that’s close but not quite there? Bring it. This is the group to help you figure out what’s missing — the transitional shot, the closer, the frame that ties it all together. Sometimes fresh eyes see the gap instantly.
Plus: Share what you’ve been shooting this week.
Week 2 of our April series: The Photograph as Story. Last week we told stories in a single frame. This week, we let them breathe.
See you Thursday!
